Biography

Alessio Papa was born in Viterbo on 1977. He frequented the Liceo Artistico "Tuscia" of Viterbo and then Academy of Fine Arts of Roma painting course. At the Academy he started to study Renaissance mannerism and the neo-mannerism. He finished the Academic studies on 2004 dissertating the thesis of artistic anatomy "the Anatomy into the Parmigianino's paintings". The artist distorts the anatomy of human figure into his paintings. He stretches unnaturally, following the Great Masters of the Late-Renaissance called by Vasari the mannerist period.

Alessio Papa took part to many artistic prizes in Italy and abroad; always met with much success from critics and public. He distinguished himself for the technique, the creativity and complexity of his works. He took part to many art exhibitions all around the world and he is mentioned into preciuos art catalogues.

He says:
"I consider art everything that is beautyfull into the human spirit, everything that mankind give to his fellow men during the centuries with culture and knowledge. If you make an analisys of my painting you will find a mix of history, fantasy and sens of beauty. It is a sign that starts from the maximum artistic expression of the Renaissance and is taken to nowadays through the mythological metaphor of classicism.
My art is against the contemporary avant-garde and it likes to go into the public's psycho-emotional mind. My painting likes to recall the curiosity of knowledge and the rapture of colors of the oneiric world."

The artist shows a work of painting that seems to be purely figurative. But, if you look better, not necessary to read the words the artist writes, you can see a substantial deforming action on the natural human figure.

Papa looks after to reveal his attraction for the mannerist style. Certainly he is referring to the interpretation they put at the first decades of the twentieth century. When mannerism was fully understood as the anti-classical aim. This was a second reading that saved from blame a lot of great artists of XVII and XVIII centuries.

I believe to support to the idea of Alessio Papa's painting. He confirms again that painting is not only an occasion to transmit a supposed moral message but also the being's powerful act. Being as expression of the ability to live as an artist, because he has something that not everyone can own:
the talent and the mastery of technique.

In this work is perceived the contemporaneity. It in the way Papa uses the color and in the way he deforms the human figure that is in no way nostalgic but completely deep-rooted into present. This deformation seems to be more similar to cartoons style than to mannerism style.
